Reuters is reporting that Research in Motion is considering splitting its business into separate handset manufacturing and network messing divisions potentially selling the handset manufacturing business to the likes of Facebook or Amazon.
Unnamed sources also state that the network messaging division could be sold or opened up to rivals such as Google or Apple, however, RIM could be kept in tact and sold in part to Microsoft.
Last month RIM hired JP Morgan and RBC Capital to look at its strategic options, and, from the sound of it, they are exploring all of them…

I want RIM to overcome that difficult period
The fat lady just stepped on stage…
Seriously though, this is probably one of the only moves RIM has left. I am beginning to wonder if we will actually see BlackBerry 10 launch…
I think that we will most definitely see BlackBerry 10. What it will do to turn things around for the company is debatable, but, RIM is all in when it comes to BlackBerry 10.
I can see why a company might want to acquire their hardware. I would buy a Android Phone with a BlackBerry keyboard in a heartbeat.
Why, on the other hand, would anyone want to buy BlackBerry software? That seems to be what is causing the company so many problems now.
I think it’s more about the RIM’s proprietary messaging network and security than it is the BlackBerry OS.
There is definitely a market for Android, Windows, and iOS devices that can get BlackBerry email and sync up to BlackBerry Enterprise Servers.
I would buy an iPhone with its iOS.
