The Boy Genius is reporting that two “high level sources” have confirmed that the BlackBerry Bold is delayed until August on AT&T due to software issues with battery life and overheating.
It doesn’t look like these issues are affecting releases of the BlackBerry Bold up in Canada seeing how Rogers has already sent out BlackBerry Bold Launch Party invitations. AT&T hasn’t even certified the BlackBerry Bold so it is going to be a while before it comes out down here.
Research in Motion hasn’t set an official date for the release of the BlackBerry Bold on AT&T so I doubt that they will say that they’ve pushed it back on todays earnings call. I would be will to bet, however, that someone is going to ask about it so it will be interesting to hear what they will say.
Ya, this news sucks. Lets hope it’s worth the wait. I just hope we then don’t see a price that is significantly higher (or even any higher) than the iPhone.
Perosnally I thought the release date was possibly July, most likely August, but this report is a concern considering the phone is having heating issues. Not good…
This is pure BS. I have read a number of people are using these devices now and they aren’t having these issues. This is called: Let’s come up with a BS reason to give iPhone all the attention. Really sketchy stuff!
I tend to agree with crazylegs. I think the main reason is the release of the iPhone 3G.
ATT does not want to focus on anything else during this time period, and for good reason. The demand for the iPhone will be huge, far larger than even the first time around. To be honest, I don’t see how Apple will be able to meet the initial demand. They sure had better have manufactured a whole lot.
I can see lines and waiting periods for the new iPhone easily persisting for at least a month or two.
Only when the initial rush to the iPhone dies down will the Bold be released…and that could take a while.
All the more reason why I wish they had released the Bold before the iPhone. And just think of all the people waiting around in the ATT stores who would have walked by and seen the Bold. Some would have walked out with one as a second phone, as a phone for a family member, etc.
My curve died over the weekend and I’m dying to get the new BOLD! Hurry up and release it, please!!!!
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. 🙂 Cheers! Sandra. R.
