You know how the saying goes… I am just not feeling the new BlackBerry Bold 9650 rumored to be officially announced next week at WES and launched in May. What will the new Bold 9650 do that most other BlackBerry devices with full QWERTY keyboards won’t do? I am sure there is something, but, is it really enough warrant buying another device?
I may pass on the the BlackBerry Bold 9650 just like I passed on the BlackBerry Storm2. What else do you have coming out RIM?
Agreed. I decided that maybe push email from work just isn’t that important anymore.
What I want is a good sized touch screen and a slide out keyboard so that I can run some apps, check on email, do facebook, linkedIn, etc, use location based apps, etc.. I’m looking much more closely at the Androids. I might look at IPhone if it comes out too. I’ve been a loyal BB user for 5 years but the Blackberry is growing so long in the tooth. No decent browser, not enough memory to run fewer lackluster apps,
I’ll toss my 2 cents in on this one and why I will be getting one…
I’m currently on the Storm2 and if you’re a Storm fan out there and love the device, I recommend getting the second version with a green dot box. New silicone on the corners allows the screen to click faster and by far easier. I’ve also used the Bold 9700 and love it as a communication device, but as we all know, the browser sucks and Opera isn’t exactly doing it for me on a BB. Furthermore, it’s on either TMO or AT&T (mine is on TMO) and it’s awful. Ever since they’ve upgraded their towers, signal hasn’t been able to hold (I’ve tested the Bold, Nexus One, HD2, etc. and all had the same results). I’m dropping the TMO account in favor of the Incredible on VZW…my personal line.
As for the Bold2/Tour2/9650 (why RIM?) on VZW, I’ll be migrating to that device from the Storm2 (not a fan of the click when compared to the nice full keyboard of the Bold). I’ll be using the new one and also testing the Incredible at the same time for work as well as personal use. If the Incredible suits my needs and works well with email and doesn’t give me any hi-cups, I will make the move and say goodbye to the BB (most likely get a Nexus One for my work line).
The BB is the ultimate “communication” device. I can’t go a day without it. But many of my work functions now require some browser work, which limits my ability to execute. Hopefully the new OS that was reported on this AM by BGR comes through and I can keep “one” BB in my stock. But if it can’t hold a candle to the others out there…
It’s the same old with a couple of new whistles (new OS, WiFi, better battery life, touch pad) and barely hanging on. RIM needs to breath some new life into their roster and realize there’s more than just email and security.
I hate to say it, but, I am thinking of going back to two devices. A work device and a personal device. The Incredible may be what I go with for personal use, and I think I’ll pick up the upcoming BlackBerry Pearl for work. I absolutely loved my 8130 for making phone calls, email, and messaging.
I love the Pearl (my favorite as well), but it’s not hitting VZW anytime soon. TMO and AT&T would drive me insane and I’d probably toss the device at something. I can’t live like that. LOL…
So true everything you are saying. Right now, for me, the form factor is all bb has going for it. I like that its thin(ish) and has the keyboard. But, it is lacking on using it for web outside of quick weather checks.
I also forgot the crack that is bbm. I do enjoy speaking to international folks without using texts. Yes, you can do this with other IM clients, but bbm doesn’t require login and will be received in similar manner to texts (as long phone is on, and service is present, the message will be received fairly quickly).
I am excited for this phone as an upgrade from my Curve 8330. I have only been eligable for an upgrade for a few months, so I didn’t really have the option to upgrade to the Tour 9630 when it was released. Then the Curve 8530 came out, I debated about upgrading at that time. However, aside from WiFi and trackpad, the 8530 is a downgrade from the 8330 (no flash, no desktop pod for charging).
I’m in the same position (except with a large crack down the center of my 8330) and am thinking of waiting for the Verizon iPhone. I don’t want to get this thing, and then have to spend full retail on an iPhone when it drops. I’ve heard rumors of “as soon as this summer” to, “they can’t start making them until September so maybe not until 2011.” Should that not be a concern?
if they cannot improve the boot time on this new device to beat the Tour (hello, 10minutes every time on my Tour?!), i will likely give on on RIM altogether. my Tour has me on the fence as it is..
To think I use to complain about the 30 second boot time of my iPhone. It pained me to reboot my blackberry as my Storm took just under 5 minutes and that was post Shrink-OS.
Yes but that wasnt a hard reset was it? do a battery pull on a iphone and tell me how long it takes to turn on..
I am eagerly awaiting this device. I went from the old curve on VZW to the storm2. The storm2 made me swear an oath to never have another device without a physical keyboard. My work environment is a BB only shop (my call), but that may change after we go to Exchange 2010. The Incredible looks (you know) based on specs, but I don’t know that I can get past the virtual keyboard hangup. The storm2 had a pretty wretched implementation of a virtual keyboard (android and iphone keyboards are MUCH better imo).
So, if I have to have a physical keyboard, and really need/want wifi and touchpad (yes and yes), this 9650 maybe my ideal device.
Now, if RIM just put a decent browser on it…
Where can I get this model? I really want to buy a BB now because I just love the complexity of it. But I was thinking… what’s better BB Curve 8520 or BB Bold 9650. Which of these two has higher memory capacity??? That can handle 16 GB??? Please contact me 09278002550. CJay here… Thanks in advance. Or message me in FB “cristherjay@live.com”.
