Research in Motion has officially released BlackBerry Desktop Manger for Mac. It will be available for download after 1:00 p.m. EST. Those days of having to run Parallels just so that you could run BlackBerry Desktop Manager in an XP Window should be over.
BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac features include:
- Sync iTunes® playlists
- Sync personal info like contacts
- Sync tasks and appointments
- Install new software, games, and more
- Keep your BlackBerry software up to date
- Create partial or full system backups
BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac, is, of course, a free BlackBerry application and you will be able to pick it here once available.
I’m having issues downloading it… get about halfway and it keeps timing-out. Anyone else having any luck?
Ok I have it now, I guess I was a little quick with the downloading.
Ok so here is my experience so far:
– You have to use a USB cable to connect first time.
– It prompts you to name your device.. much as described in earlier articles posted here.
– Everything seems to work nicely… now for the first sync
– Wish me luck.. I didn’t opt to back up
– It has asked if device data should be replaced or merged (recommended that a replace is used if the device was synced previously)
– First sync error.. (seems like it is for the calendars)
– It has moved on to syncing the contacts.. been going for about two minutes now on contacts.
– Make that 5 minutes now
– Again.. “A sync error occurred. Please try again…”
– My device is now frozen… I’ll submit this post and then once restarting it, I’ll post again.
Ok…
Round Two.
I should probably add here that I am using a Blackberry Curve 8310 on the Vadacom (Vodafone) Network in South Africa.
Software version: 4.5.0.55
Ok, this time it is syncing automatically (something I chose first time round).
– No errors this time so far with calendars:
– Contacts going ok so far… Completed contacts with no error messages!
– Everything else working perfectly 🙂
I have checked my device and it all seems to be looking pretty good!
Well done RIM 🙂
Cheers guys, happy syncing!
well done RIM! i love my BKB even more that i can use BKB Desktop Manager on my MacBook Pro, instead of PocketMac…
I downloaded it. I have a MacBook Pro. I used it. I hate it. Now my Blackberry 8330 on Verizon is messed up. I cannot delete any of my contacts manually from my Blackberry. Like I have one that I don’t want anymore on my Blackberry and I want to delete it and I can’t. I hate it. Now what do I do?
Delete it on your computer, once syncing it should be deleted on your phone…
Make sure that you have selected two-way sync.
One thing I dont like is the fact that you have to use the cable.. i.e. no bluetooth syncing.. but its a start I guess.
unable to sync my Blackberry Pearl w/ iCal using new Blackberry software for Mac. Have uninstalled PocketMac, and fiddled with the various settings, but I get “A sync error occurred. Pls. try again.” message OR it says sync is successful, but I’m missing alot of calendar entries that are on my computer, but not on my Blackberry. No logic to it – both recurring events and single time, also not associated with a particular calendar (eg – on iCal, I have a calendar color for me, my husband, my kids, my work, etc.) Any suggestions? I’m about ready to quit Verizon and Blackberry and get an iPhone…
I was getting “a sync error has occurred” with my calendar and address book and found this helpful tip at http://www.voiptechchat.com/tech/319/blackberry-desktop-manager-for-mac-sync-error/
Using terminal, cut and past the following:
/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync.pl reset
and then close terminal and re-sync. It worked for me perfectly!
1. How do i sync my blackberry curve to my mac? I already downloaded blackberry desktop manager but it won’t pick up my app’ts that I put on my blackberry before I downloaded it.
HELP!
Hi Elizabeth
I’m not sure I’m following you properly… This app isn’t perfect yet.. I still get a few errors here and there.
I think it is particularly tricky if you had appointments on your phone AND others that were on your Mac before syncing.. When I did my first sync, I opted to clear all phone entries and overwrite them with that on my mac. It worked perfectly for me..
I cant show you a clip, but if you click on “Advanced Settings” in the Calendar Sync window, there is an option to sync: All Events, Only future events etc.. maybe check that and see if it starts to work..?
Hi,
My iCal isn’t syncing correctly with my Pearl 8130. It keeps trying to delete all the older entries on my computer (this has already happened a few times, but I was able to restore the calendar through an iCal backup). The Pearl is set to “keep entries forever” but this is still happening. I’ve tried “only sync future events” also, but get the same message, though all the events it wants to delete are in the past. Any help would be great – the Desktop Mgr (which I was so looking forward to!) is useless to me as long as I have this issue.
yes, I have exactly the same issue, and I haven’t found a solution on any of the forums. Beyond frustrated at this point.
same is true for me. I wasted many hours that first weekend after the software was available. Once I finally got some semblance of a sync to work (without the error messages), it was an incomplete sync, despite choosing to overwrite the device with iCal. I’m back to entering everything twice, on BB and on Mac, and waiting for Verizon to have the iPhone.
i have the same problem. i’ve set my appointments to be kept forever on my curve 8320 but it still deletes stuff that are old on the blackberry. this wouldn’t really bother me if the advanced options on the blackberry desktop manager to sync only future events works. But i still end up getting events to be deleted which are from the past. help!
After years of using my Blackberry Bold on a Mac with Missing Sync, endless nights of dismal syncs, backups and restores, I find it rather unfortunate that I am still sitting here, at 1am, now doing the exact same sort of stuff with the Mac version of Blackberry Desktop Manager. I may not be able to punch out an email as quickly as I would with a Blackberry using an iPhone, but WHO CARES!!!!!!! Data is KING and my data keeps getting f&*ked up and I’m tired of rebuilding calendars, manually deleting duplicates, etc etc etc. I’d rather have a peaceful night of sleep. Screw you RIM. I hope your stock prices goes to shit.
I so totally agree with Ace Ventura. 100%.
