The Wall Street Journal is reporting that, after laying off 5000 employees last fiscal year, BlackBerry is about to cut a large share of jobs — mostly middle management.
Richard Piasentin, former BlackBerry VP of Sales in the U.S. was fired last month (June), but, it isn’t totally clear if his departure was part of this round of layoffs or because BlackBerry sales in U.S. are pretty abysmal.

Is he the scape goat in the process? Heads need to roll starting from Frank on down, Declining US sales , bad marketing , US Carriers slow to the punch. Have you walked into a TMobile or Best Buy lately and noticed the BlackBerry 10 set up? Sad and ass’ need to be kicked.
It seems like since Jon Chen has taken over BlackBerry has focused more on software and services than handset sales. I wonder if the firing of Richard Piasentin is just more of a sign that BlackBerry is actually trying to get out of the hardware game.
