Rumor has it that BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, the update that is supposed to include native email support along with a BBM client, isn’t going to come out until mid February of next year. I was going to name this post BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Delayed, but, seeing how RIM only said that BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 would be out shortly after BlackBerry DevCon, calling it delayed wouldn’t be as accurate as stating that it is going to take forever to come out.
The reason for the hold up is RIM is having difficulty getting BlackBerry ID working with multiple PINs, which, would allow you to connect to mail, calendar, contacts, and BBM from both your BlackBerry and your PlayBook sharing information between the two devices. If this rumor turns out to be true, and, we are looking at another 4 months for the BlackBerry PlayBook to be able to do things promised to be coming 3 to 4 months ago, I dare say that it will be a long winter for BlackBerry powered tablet devices.

So, basically what you are saying is that the BlackBerry PlayBook won’t will won’t do what the original iPad did until around the time that iPad 3 rumors are in full swing.
RIM should honestly just scrap any hopes for of a tablet OS. They are simply just too late game. There is really only room for 2 or 3 tablet OSes in the long run and they are iOS, Android, and Windows…
I agree that RIM has some real challenges ahead, but, I don’t see how people can put Windows Phone 7 in front of RIM when they can’t give their phones away and don’t even have a tablet OS.
I wasn’t referring to Windows Phone 7, but, Windows 8, which will run on tablets that is coming out next year. Windows will be a huge player in the tablet space (if not the biggest in time) because it is the next update to the OS running on most laptops and desktops now.
Are they actually trying to run the company into the ground?
I was babysitting my mom’s Playbook for the last two days. She kept complaining to me the Bridge was disconnecting from her phone. Since I’m still on my Bold 9700 for another week or two, I decided to see what was up and took it from her. I had no connection issues at all, and spent the day tapping away emails and BBMs. I could see if I used my Berry for business 24/7 like she does investing in one. The Playbook really is a great little tablet with a bright clear display, and it works very smoothly together with the phone.
I tried a re-install of the Bridge app on her Torch 9800 and re-connected them, but to be honest I think it’s just her phone since it likes to randomly turn off the radio and Wi-Fi connections on her. Not a huge fan of the form factor or all the OS issues with the Torch (and she’s on her second since the first died 2 months out of the box), hence my refusal to buy it and my talking about my recent iPhone purchase on another post here because of the delay in RIM releasing the Bold Touch 9900 for AT&T.
Anyway, the Playbook should have been released with native email support from the box. This is like iOS not being able to copy and paste for years, BONEHEADED. However, without the iBobbleHeads out there to support it, issues like these are why the Playbook isn’t selling nearly as much as it should.
What really chaps me is how the OS on the tablet should be on the new damn phones NOW, not sometime next year.
If I were a RIM shareholder, I would be pretty ticked off at the clowns running the show over there. How the hell do you take a company from the top of the heap in smartphones mid-decade and do THIS to it and keep your jobs?
