BlackBerry Leaks is reporting that they have received “solid word” on the list of older BlackBerry devices that will support BlackBerry OS 6.0 or BlackBerry 6 as RIM is referring to it. There are only 2 devices being sold right now that will support BlackBerry 6 and chances are that you don’t own one of them…
Devices That Will Support BlackBerry 6
- Bold 9650
- Pearl 9100 and 9105
- Bold 9700
- Storm2 9520 and 9550
Well, that list is awfully short and kind of sucks if you don’t have a Bold 9700 or Storm2… To be honest, however, the only available device not on the list that I thought might be is the BlackBerry 8530.

I have the Storm 9350 and by far it is the worst phone I have ever had. The ONLY thing it does well is e-mail. Browssing the internet is painful and yet my carries charges me $30 each for 2 phone per month = $60 and it sucks.
Try and play a video from most sources and nothing……….I am always told I need Java and then when I try to download Java I get a message it does not work with my Storm. If Verizon does not get the I Phone this year it is goodbye to Verizon and Blackberry.
I am so sorry we bought 2. Waste of money.
Patrick,
I couldn’t agree with you more about the Storm and I just told BlackBerry that in a survey they asked me to fill out. You should really consider the Droid Incredible. The exact opposite of the Storm, it is the BEST phone I’ve ever had. Try the iPhone before you get one, I’ve used it and really don’t like it. If it came to Verizon I wouldn’t get it. The UI is slick and smooth and simple but I find it somewhat constrained with no back key so if the UI doesn’t get an on-screen key then you have to hit the home key and restart what you were doing. Compare before you buy but, yeah, trash the Storm…they should be sues for putting out such garbage.
I own the Storm2. The only disappointment is the software OS 5… The Hardware is really great. I hope the OS 6 will come soon.
Bye!
The Storm 2 will not be getting OS6. OS6 requires 280mb of memory to function when placed onto a touch screen phone. The Storm two only has 256mb of memory. So unless RIM release a updated Storm 2 with more internal memory the Storm 2 will be stuck with OS5.
just wondering… how do you know it’s going to require exactly 280mb of memory to function ?
and what source did you get it from, would like to check it out.
If that is so, then it was a long wait for everyone, and allot of time creating and OS to work only on 2 peaces of gear Blackberry Torch and Blackberry Bold 9650, so it seems.
Just feels like a waist of time and money!?
Brandon, if that’s true then why is the 9550 listed in this article as getting OS6??
just wait for the storm 3 it will be launching soon with then new software…i think its april of 2011…
OS 6 has been leaked for the Bold 9700, which only has 256mb memory, so it will probably make its way to the Storm 2 eventually. I have a Storm 1, 9530, and will probably never purchase a BlackBerry phone again. Huge disappointment. For now I opted for the iPhone, but was seriously considering an Android phone. I’ve also heard good things about the Window 7 phone, but haven’t had a chance to play with one…
I will not get another BlackBerry unless they give it to me from work.
I agree. I bought 2 of these phones almost 2 years ago. The one I got for my wife has been in the shop 3 times due to battery failure and Os failure. Mine has been ok, but agreed that the os could be a lot faster, as well as surfing and loading times. The time it takes for the devices to boot up is ridiculous. I will be buying an I-phone next time.
