As some of you may know, I’ve been working on changing the theme here at RIMarkable. I am by no means a WordPress theme developer and thus it has been very slow going as I play with different templates when I get a little spare time here and there.
I “think” that I have settled on the Neoclassical theme by Chris Pearson. If you want to check out what things may look like around here in the coming weeks, find out how after the jump.
The new theme isn’t ready to go prime time quite yet, however, I was hoping to get a little bit of feedback on how things look. I’ve heard that one of the first rules of web design is to never put up an unfinished web site, however, I don’t really like rules, and more importantly, don’t want to pour a ton more of time into this if most of you think it sucks.
If you want to see what the new theme looks like on the live site, there are couple of things that you need to do.
- Bookmark this post — I am going to stick links to the new theme and the theme your looking at now in this post. You will be able to change back and forth between the new and old themes and this page has the links to do so
- Promise to leave a comment and tell us what you think.
Like a said, there are just a couple of things that you need to do.
Remember, this theme isn’t finished yet. Some links are dead and some features aren’t turned on yet. I know that I need to clean up the massive list of categories and hopefully will do that this weekend.
All that being said, here is the
and here is the

Wow! How many times do we have to read about the upcoming theme? Just make it happen!
Well, you don’t have to read about it. Look at it and tell me what you think.
I know ads are important, but it seems the size of the ads and the amount of them (especially on the front page) make it distracting when browsing. The bog green marker ad via Google is obnoxious I know they are random, but the size allowed…). Honestly though…the theme isn’t that much of a stretch. Looks decent for a blog.

PS – I reposted my comment because some of what I typed was omitted. Testing for typos, spelling, etc. Looking to see if it went through correctly this time…
Right side of the site…’models’…need to shorten the list somehow. Reduce it to the 8100 series, 8300 series, etc. Listing each, individual model is going to run the page much longer than it needs to be. Hope this feedback helps…I’ve done a few sites and blogs myself. 🙂
Overall, I like the design.
However, I see what bluehorseshoe means…the ads do appear to be a bit too conspicuous. The width of the right side column also appears to be a bit much. The left side column seems to be mostly white space. In fact, when looking at the page, the center column of content seems to get a bit lost in all of the stuff in the columns on the sides.
In fact, on your current design, at least the main content has the shaded blue background to accentuate…on the new design, again, it seems the main content, in the center, needs to be more of a focus.
At any rate, thanks for this blog and the hard work you put into it.
