Google put out a new version of Google Maps today… version 3.02, and, as usual, no release notes, so imagine my surprise when I learned that Google Maps 3.02 supports GPS on the BlackBerry Storm.
Word on the street is that GPS still doesn’t work on older BlackBerry devices, however, if you have a BlackBerry Storm, I strongly recommend getting the latest version of Google Maps. It is way better BlackBerry Maps.
You can download Google Maps directly to you BlackBerry by pointing your devices browser to http://m.google.com/maps.

then how come I still can’t see the exact location of my 2 friends who have Storm’s, GPS location on, and updated to 3.0.2?
Still don’t see options for GPS location.
Jman … were you running the software before the addition of the GPS?? If so, you need to do a batt pull. When you do, you’ll see a blue icon in the lower right corner. This will tell you weather or not GPS is available or not. Hope this helps.
did the batt pull. Still wasn’t locating GPS. I don’t know if this helped but I started BBMaps, and made sure the GPS worked, then went back to Gmaps, and it was working. Would be nice to have a option in the menu to override the GPS on/off from within Gmaps app, but free is always NICE so I won’t complain.
Thanks
I just downloaded the Google maps v3.0.2 and my keyboard is staying up all the time. It won’t flip to landscape view and the BB menu won’t prompt me to ‘show keyboard’. Is this normal?
fixed….and in case anyone else has the same problem… here’s the fix:
