Not a week ago, rumors started spreading that Verizon cancelled the BlackBerry Storm 9570 which was basically a BlackBerry 6 capable refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550. It actually looks like, however, that Research in Motion has canceled the BlackBerry Storm 9570 for all.
Head after the jump to see what RIM had to say to a BlackBerry developer about their application intended for the BlackBerry Storm Refresh…
“Thank you for your hard work and diligence in preparing your application to support the upcoming hardware refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone (model number 9570, codename R027). Regrettably, RIM has decided not to pursue this device further and has ended the program.
However, rest assured that you will have the opportunity to leverage the work you’ve put in thus far in preparing for the new OS, as BlackBerry 6 will be making its way to more Verizon products in the near future, including the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Curve 9330″
If not a BlackBerry Storm 9570, what other full touchscreen device does RIM have coming out. Having used a touchscreen BlackBerry for last two years, I have no desire to go back to QWERTY or really even back to a SureType device. I don’t gather that I am alone…

RIM = Research In Molasses
Nope, I want a Touch Screen BlackBerry with OS 6.0 on Verizon. I upgrade my device every year. So, I don’t really have an option… I will go for the Droid X this year and then next year I will see what RIM and Verizon have out there… I don’t hate the BlackBerry because I would jump on the Torch for Verizon in a minute…. But I will not switch carriers. So, Droid it is.
Research In Molasses indeed!
Verizon better get on the ball and offer some type of full touch screen OS 6 device and fast B4 MOST Verizon customers switch to Droids as well…or an iPhone CDMA device
*crosses fingers*
I wonder if this means that Verizon RIM is working on some other Touch Screen device that we just haven’t heard about yet? There a lot of original BlackBerry Storm 9530 customers that will just switch to Android or the iPhone because they are so used to using a touch screen if RIM doesn’t put something else out.
I hope the Storm series is not dead. The SurePress system is so much more reliable than other touch screen systems on a moving platform and in dirty conditions is better than a keypad. I also seem to get better reception than any of my colleagues that have iphone or Android.
I will hold on until Christmas to see if RIM can deliver something good.
Sure Press was a stupid gimmick that I’m sure will not be returning.
I happen to be one of those Storm1 and Storm2 users. I got the Storm 1 on launch day. I also got the Storm2 on launch day (I was able to get a Verizon CSR to push my annual upgrade date from late Nov when the Storm 1 was released to Oct 28th when the Storm2 was released).
I would of gotten the refresh on launch day because I wanted OS 6. I sell my old BlackBerry’s on ebay to recoup almost all the $$$ for a new phone. That’s why I upgrade every year.
This year I am upgrading Oct 28h online to a Droid X. Unless I hear RIM has a touch screen coming by thanksgiving with OS 6 on Verizon.
So, I am one of those folks that want a touch screen. I would of loved the Torch. But I will never switch from Verizon.
As I’m still rockin’ a 9530 from work, I’m bummed. I wanted to be bugging my boss to upgrade me to a Storm2R as I really want the RAM bump and WiFi. He actually offered to upgrade me to a Storm2 just two months ago but I said “wait” since news of the Storm2R indicated it was coming soon. So now Verizon EOL’s the Storm2 and passes on the Storm2R. Can they be getting out of the Storm business? Or is it that the mystical “Storm3” we saw spy shots out of Indonesia a few weeks back is closer than we think?
“Can you hear me now… RIM”! I don’t want the Android or the I pod and I have no desire to switch carriers… I am very satisfied with the reliable service Verizon offers. I would hope the blackberry torch will soon be added to Verizon’s blackberry line up. I am quite happy with my storm 2, but I am ready for an upgrade.
Looks like RIM might be releasing the BlackBerry Storm3, not the 9570 refresh, in late Novemember…
Rumor: BlackBerry Storm3 Coming Late Novemeber
I figured that something like that had to be the case. I couldn’t see RIM just leaving that many customers that wanted a Touch Screen BlackBerry on Verizon out in the cold like that.
That’s been my suspicion since the “Storm2R is cancelled” rumors first started flying (as well as the news going back a while that Verizon had halted BlackBerry 6 testing on the Storm2), that the REAL Storm3 had to be close. And November makes perfect sense to line up on the 1 year anniversary of Storm2 launch and 2 year anniversary of Storm launch.
