As many CDMA BlackBerry users know, Verizon, Sprint, and other CDMA wireless providers generally don’t get new BlackBerry devices for up to a year after they are released on GSM carriers. There are rumors on the street, however, that point to a CDMA version of the BlackBerry Bold coming out on Verizon and Sprint not a year after AT&T, but a couple months later.
That’s right boys and girls… Verizon and Sprint may get a CDMA based BlackBerry Bold by summer’s end. Infosync World is reporting that the BlackBerry Bold will hit Verizon and Sprint in September of this year. That is just 2 months or so passed the release date of the BlackBerry Bold on AT&T.

I wonder how good Infosync’s record is with these rumors. Didn’t BGR say that we shouldn’t expect the CDMA BB Bold until May of 09?
It would be great if this turns out to be true, but I won’t hold my breath. If it is true, then they are in essence killing off the CDMA Curve very quickly, not to mention releasing the Bold very close to the Thunder. I don’t know if VZW or RIM would want to do that.
Hey Rob, check your second paragraph. It says CDMA Pearl. Having just gone through a fiasco over wording for certain Curve posts, I hope you can change it.
Good catch Matt…
@ Thought – Your comments make sense, but I hope it turns out the other way… I want a Bold on Verizon ASAP! 🙂 Either way I think I’ll keep hacking along with my old 8703 and see what late Summer brings.
So Bob,
I am curious… Are the rumors of the CDMA BlackBerry Bold and the BlackBerry Thunder keeping your from moving to the BlackBerry Curve, or, were you not thinking about moving to a Curve at all?
I was not planning on going to the curve at all for verizon because i found the curve to be too small for me…i was planning on buying a red 8830 but if the bold is definetly coming out in September I just might reconsider
Selling my VZW Curve to offset the cost of upgrading to the Bold as soon as it’s released.
My Verizon new every two is up in early October, and both my wife and I are interested in the Bold. I’ve got an 8703e now, and we’re definitely going to pass up the Curve if the Bold seems to be in sight.
Based on the history of VZW getting new phones, I am very skeptical on this rumor. Why would this timetable of 1 year later all of the suddenly change to a few months? If it does, I am not complaining, but just curious.
Is there any reason to think that this may be true this time, or is this just the beginning of another long year of launch date rumors and watching ATT walk around with another phone we VZW users can’t get?
I went to verizon the other day to get the curve and they told me to wait for the bold, that they were getting it towards the end of july. They don’t know the exact date because they only find out 5 days before in the store, but it was definitely coming then
i have been reading a lot about the bold recently, and really want one, but i’m on sprint’s network. well yesterday i went to the sprint store to find out if they were getting it or not because if not, i planned on purchasing the curve. the salesman told me that sprint did a test service with the blackberry bold and will not be coming out with this phone because the CMDA network is wayyy too slow for the phone. anyone who heard rumors about september, hate to believe it, but maybe he’s telling the truth. im disappointed because i really wanted the bold. he also said it would be touchscreen, not referring to the thunder.
us sprint customers get screwed out of all these good phones that end up “exclusive to verizon” or “at&t” of course, like with the iphone. i think that is sooo stupid and blackberry should make the model for every carrier
Only if they are staying EVDO non-REV A.
Rev A. is as fast if not faster than ATT’s 3g crap. (and it actually has better connect time)
this is all bad talk. I was on the same board for almost a whole year waiting for the curve to come out. there were false dates given so many times it a joke. I hope its true because im up for upgrade in september and i will definetely get the bold if its out, but if not im getting the curve and im not waiting past september. ive waited to long. i even went in the store in may to buy the curve at full price and the employee talked me out of it. its ridiculous.
i went to verizon the other day. the guy said verizons not gettng the blackberry bold because theyre going with the thunder. he tried to get me to wait for the thunder but i didnt want touch. so he told me that the next best thing is the curve. im hearing these rumors about the bold coming out soon for verizon but im debating on whether i want to wait, or cancel my plan and go to att.
I recently bought the curve and love the phone. IMHO Sprint has a nice network capable of delivering to the full functionality of the phone. Ok the TV can be choppy but I’m not too interested in tv, yet anyway. If Sprint launched the Bold tomorrow I’d get it but, physical features aside, my real interest is fir the wi-fi functionality. Between my home and countless other free wi-fi I encounter through my day, I’ll be able to use talk and data, unlimited…and for free! No different than any of you of course. I FINALLY will KILL my land line service! I am sure most of you are thinking “why haven’t I done that already”? Let’s just say it is a married “thing”…ha.
Anyway, I’m keeping my hopes up that it will release soon. Until then I will enjoy my best handset yet….the Curve!
Best regards.
does anyone have an estimate on how much will the bold be for verizon
Waiting on a Bold on Verizon… Waiting… Waiting… New every two just came up, and I’m waiting… Hate touch screens… so I’m waiting…
On infosyncworld.com they said that Sprint would get the Blackberry Bold in May of 2009.

This is kind of an older post but I just came accross it so I’ll throw up some of the more recent info I got from Verizon.
From Instore Reps. – I spoke with instore reps and they couldn’t tell me anything. They definitely knew somehting but they couldn’t tell me what.
Behind the Customer Service Counter – On one of the reps computers there were four phones across the top of the screen and the only one I saw clearly enough to determin what it was, it was either the BB Bold or Curve 8900 series. It was a quick glance so I didn’t get a great look, but there’s no mistaking the new BB home screen even at a quick glance. Oh, it definitely was not the Storm as it looks quite a bit different. I asked the rep sitting at the pc next to that one what it was and he turned the screen off and said he’s not allowed to talk about it yet and he went right back to work.
611 Cust. Ser. – I spoke with a rep and I asked what was going to be available in the next 3 months (my 2 yrs. being up in May09). She told me she was not allowed to give out that information until they start promoting the release date of a product. I then told her what happened in the Verizon store (what I had seen on the rep’s screen) and told her that I don’t think it’s right that they are able to have something like that out for customers to see but when we ask about it we’re told they can’t tell us. That’s simply rude and unprofessional. She apologized for what had happend and then asked if I would like to be put on the list to purchase a Bold or Curve and that it was still early enough that I would recieve one as soon as they are areleased. I then asked about my new every 2 plan because I had heard recently that when your 2 years is up you only have 6 months to use the credit from Verizon. She said that the phones would be available before I would have to worry about that. I didn’t get on the list. 1) I’ve never owned a BB. Only HTC’s so far. jot sure I want to make the switch. 2) I never get a brand new smartphone when it first comes out. Just personal preference.
In conclusion – From the info I got from the rep I spoke with over the phone is that either the Bold, updated curve or both will be out on Verizon by November 2009 at the latest. I am due in May and she told me that I would be able to get one of those phones before 6months after my old contract is up. So November at the latest.
I was going to upgrade from my Treo (which I have never liked) to the Blackberry Curve, which had the ability to bump up the font, GPS, etc. I was all set to do that since my ugrade is available from Sprint. Then I went to compare the plans at ATT and saw the BOLD. The screen size, key pad, etc., is too much better than the Curve, to not wait for it. However, the posts above indicate May for BOLD… It is early March and it is out, so should we hope early summer for Sprint?
It is March 24, 2009 an i am eligible for an upgrade in May of this year. I keep hearing the bolds coming in May so i am siked but afraid to be dissappointed but i dont want AT&T so i really am hopeing VZW gets it. Well my laptop batterys dieing so lol.
Still no news about the Bold =( I am waiting also. Anyone know anything???
Supposedly the release date for the Blackberry Bold on VZW is May 9th, but dont hold me to it, VZW has a nasty habit of changing the date at the last minute.
I’m waiting for BOLD to hit Sprint…any updates? Anyone? I thought about getting the Palm Pre. Pro’s/ Con’s? No bbm…that would be a bummer. I want to wait for the Bold if it really is coming. Ugh.
Do you have any updates on the verzion atlas. I am reading thats going to be the next bb type like the bold. I know vzn has the tour. Not really impressed. The talk quality and no wifi. Big turn off for me. Really like to bold. thanks for you help
I’m only 14, but I am thinking on getting this blackberry, I plan on going into business after high school than collage, I am a freshman, so any advice?
