According to recent press release Palm will announce “a new category of mobile device“, tomorrow, May 30th, at the D: All Things Digital conference in Calrsbad, California.
We want your opinions… Do you think that Palms new device will reverse their fortune?
They’ve got to do something dramatic to compete against the BB, all of the Windows Mobile devices, and of course the upcoming iPhone.
It will be interesting to see what happens…Jeff Hawkins at one point was a visionary in the field of mobile computing…
There was some talk not that long ago about Palm releasing devices with Blackberry email connect. They did it quietly with the treo 650, but it was all ready an out dated device.
If they can release a device with a real sexy look, that doesn’t have to be reset every 10 min, and have BB connect they may be on to something. But RIM is just putting out stuff at an alarming rate, it would take some thing real crazy to topple the king!!!
It’s tomorrow already and The Foleo is CRAP!
I think I just saw it on Bloomberg. It’s nothing but a small laptop computer. No threat to Blackberry.
Bloomberg will talk to Palm CEO in a little bit.
Looking at the device just launched today there is no mystery why Palm has continued to slip. Nothing revolutionary, nothing new. And at the proposed price tag of $499, I suggest one greatly consider a cheap laptop alternative. It baffles me why one would carry a foleo and a smartphone rather than a laptop and smartphone. Consider just how thin most laptops have become. A foleo requires space as a does a laptop and is nothing more than a hyped up dumb terminal as those familiar with Unix or remote computing understand well. How this concept is unique other than providing remote access to a smartphone is beyond me. Someone help. I am still trying to understand why I would carry a foleo rather than a laptop at the same price with endless additional functionality when neither can be more easily stored over the other.
