It’s clear that Research in Motion’s focus at this year Consumer Electronics Show is laser targeted on the BlackBerry PlayBook. Will, however, the company with the biggest percentage market share of smartphone users in North America announce any new additions to it’s aging lineup of BlackBerry smartphones?

Please send me a new Storm 3!
You mean like a Curve 3 or something silly, that is no different from the last Curve.
The only thing RIM announced about new BlackBerry phones was that theirs will continue to suck when compared to everyone else for the foreseeable future…
yet they’re (RIM) still number 1/have the most users
LOL
Dude, RIM is a phone manufacturer that didn’t announce a new phone at the biggest electronics show of the year. Apple is the only company big enough to get away with something like that. Being number 1 doesn’t mean a whole lot if you are losing market share hand over fist and show no signs of how you are going to change the trend. Palm used to be number 1. Windows Mobile used to be number 1. Hell… RIM used to be number 1 in the United States.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but RIM has gone down 4% in the last quarter. They are dropping like a rock. Once the Verizon iphone is announced tomorrow, those numbers will plumet even more. BB is a business device and basically a glorified 2 way pager and that is the realm they will be returning to.
I was actually pretty disappointed that a new phone wasn’t announced. CES is the biggest show of the year and even though
WESBlackBerry World is RIM’s biggest show of the year, it isn’t until May. It looks like the Verizon iPhone is about to be announced tomorrow and we have no idea the next Verizon BlackBerry will be. There are a lot of BlackBerry Tour, Storm and Storm 2 users who have already gone month to month on their contracts and something tells me that many of them (read 100s of thousands) are going to churn over to the iPhone…It was a huge mistake for RIM not to make mention of a new BlackBerry phone. Even if just another Curve or something. The perception will be that Verizon doesn’t have any new BlackBerries coming out anytime soon so Verizon subscribers may as well get a an Android phone or the Verizon BlackBerry.
Seeing what Android and the iphones are capable of, why would anyone want a BB. Just about every one of my friends that left BB and went to either Android or the iphone can’t believe everything these devices can do compared to the BB.
People are creatures of habit. Granted, many of them are changing habits and moving away from the BlackBerry, but, a lot of folks are happy with their BlackBerry device and would probably stick with it if there was another BlackBerry to upgrade to.
The question for RIM, I guess, was by the effort of announcing a new BlackBerry just not worth the number of BlackBerry users that they could keep from churning to other devices.
Well we will know in 23-30 days if this is true for Vz customers. Story will be very telling depending on how it goes. Where I work, I ran out of hands to count those with Storms who say they will be switching to iPhone 4.
