Research in Motion announced this morning that they have acquired mobile UI (user interface) company TAT (The Astonishing Tribe) who will bring their talents in mobile interface design to the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry smartphones.
For those who don’t know, TAT is renowned for their innovative mobile user interface (UI) designs and has a long history of working with mobile and embedded technology. TAT focuses on delivering great user experiences, from a design, technology, and usability perspective. Their design technology is used today in a variety of industries including the consumerelectronics and automotive sectors.
To check out some of TAT’s work, head over to http://www.tat.se/ but they are probably best known for the UI on the original Android device, the T-Mobile G1…
That 3D eyetracking would be pretty nice on all devices, but especially on the Storm & Playbook.
Does anyone have any idea how long it will be before we a BlackBerry running this new interface? I am trying to hold out it because I don’t want to loose all of my BBM contacts but, current BlackBerries suck and I won’t buy another on until its more like the iPhone or Android as far as other apps and stuff.
If they only implement devices that look like the phones in the presentation, and that file transfer between phones [:-)], then they are good to go. LOL. Seriously though, sounds like they are at least aware of their UI shortcoming which is the first step to change. Good news for sure.
Hey Ja2bk,
Douglas from RIM here. With TAT joining other companies like Torch Mobile and Viigo, we couldn’t be more excited about the growing BlackBerry family and the future of how users will interact with BlackBerry products. Stay tuned to our Inside BlackBerry blog for upcoming posts on TAT’s arrival and how it will all take shape.
Cheers,
