RIM put out a Tweet the other day that insinuated that the new BlackBerry 7 devices were going to be announced yesterday, July 26th. The exact verbage…
You got it! New #BlackBerry devices are coming w/ our new OS, BlackBerry 7! Check back tmrw 4 deets on #BB7FanNight. ^CH
Most people, myself included, took this to mean that RIM was going to release details on new BlackBerry 7 devices that are coming. What RIM actually meant was that they were releasing details on #BB7FanNight… That is a load of BS and RIM knows it…
For all those that are saying this Tweet doesn’t say that RIM is announcing anything about details on new BlackBerry 7 devices coming out, stop lying to yourself and stop being so naive. This Tweet is ambiguous at best, but, really more like a lie with plausible deniability if people misinterpret it’s intent.
This Tweet was intentionally written in a way to bait folks into talking about RIM more so than they would have if RIM had just been announcing a contest. Well, I guess that worked, but, at what cost to RIM’s already tarnished reputation?
Let’s see:
“You got it! New #BlackBerry devices are coming w/ our new OS, BlackBerry 7!”
We (the customers) are right, new BlackBerry devices are coming with the new OS 7. Check!
“Check back tmrw 4 deets on #BB7FanNight. ^CH”
We should check back tomorrow for details about BB7 Fan night. Check!
Where does it say that we should check back for details on new BB7 devices?
It actually says it in the first line! WOW if they were referring to a contest, there is no need to mention anything about new phones coming out. It clearly says new bb’s with OS BB7, check back tomorrow for details – not check back tomorrow for details about our new contest. A play on words, yes, but they knew exactly what they were implying! And in my opinion, in the state that RIM is in they have no time to be playing with words or anything else for that matter.
Of course, when you break it down like that… But lets be honest, this was a pretty vague tweet, with a dash of misrepresentation.
I am an editor for a small publication in the Boston, MA area, and part of my job is to make sure the we don’t print copy like this. Though grammatically correct, it should have been clear to the writer, and blatantly clear to the editor who approved this Tweet that confusion over what ‘deets’, new BlackBerry 7 devices or #BB7FanNight, readers should check back the next day for.
I agree with you 100% on this one. I am an avide BB user, even bought the unfinished tablet to support and have been waiting what seems like forever for these new phones they promised in order to upgrade my 9700 that is falling apart…I was so excited to see the postings and the buzz abt the phone releases, but am now very disappointed that this was alll a ploy surrounding their new crappy contest. I even started this morning looking at Android phones and looking into other options. Seems to me like RIM just keeps stepping into more s*&t and their customers & followers are not really considered. Which, although I hate to admit it, is prob why they have lost their market share. Of course, along with releasing the table late and unfinished, not relasing another NEW phones since the Torch last year, and now releasing phones (as excited as I was) that are a bit outdated in comaprison to so many others out there. I have held my hopes up, fought off all the Apple supporter’s defending BB, but am now ever so much more uncertain of the future that RIM holds. I dont know what is going on a RIM, but their leadership must be daft in thinking that we will stand for this any longer. Changes need to happen asap. Because from what I know those who have converted are not regretting it one bit, and there lack of action is leaving a window of opportunity for more of us to walk away.
I will give RIM the benefit of the doubt and hold out until August. But if there are no updates as to a release date I will be the proud owner of an IPHONE.
