Where did .203 come from? I’m playing with .148 and here comes .203. Interesting. Going to be interesting to see what the improvements are from .148.
.203 = .148
There are multiple numbers associated with each release- platform, version, release.
Leaked OS .148 was platform .181, version .148, release .203.
Oh, and just for the sake of clarity, this is the file name for leaked .148:
9530AMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel203_PL4.0.0.181_A4.7.0.148
I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m still curious as to how the PR nightmare is going to go over when the Storm 2 comes out in the fall. Almost anyone who has a Storm and follows the tech sector knows about this but I would guesstimate that to be about 10% of the total Storm user population.
That other 90% (the proles) are going to be up in arms when they hear this.
Anyone able to download the new software yet? Or where we need to go to get the link to download it?
So it comes out at 6pm on the westcoast?
i thought i had upgraded lol and its just the 148.
i was on a old one i had no complaints seemed to work ok for me.
I love my storm..cant wait for storm 2.
In your Blackberry Device…go to OPtion>Advanced option>Wireless Update and follow the instructions.Tonight at 10pm.(EST-May 31/09).
anyone confirm availability?
@sparky
I’m downloading it over the air now from Verizon. On the East coast. It was available for me when I checked this morning at 7:30am. It’s a 20mb download which seemed small at first until I realized it’s a bitch to have 20mb of data FREE for the update to come in to my phone. It’s quite sad that they can’t utilize the memory card for things like this instead of the system memory.
I have .148 from a previous leak. Went to the options/advanced/wireless update and said it couldn’t find an update.
@Sparky
I would assume that if you’re going to do any official updating from Verizon that you’d want to revert your phone back to it’s original setup.
Correct. My wife is running .141 and can’t get an update either. Anyone think it’s worth an official re-build, or just keep what we have?
@Sparky
I’ve got one friend who’s completed the upgrade from Verizon and it crashes when he pulls up the camera software so your call. I’m only sticking with the official release because if I want to bitch about the Storm, I feel I can only justify it if I’m using what the proles are supposed to use.
There’s an issue with the camera. I’ve already crashed it twice as the system decided to reboot, not saving the picture.
Now how in the world did this get by the anal retentive folks over at VZW? 🙂
I’m happy with the leaked .148 and haven’t found any problems. I’m sticking with what works. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Oh BOY…. All this time waiting for big red to “thoroughly test”, and missing countless of RIM’s OS updates in the mean time, all to come to find out verizon has done nothing but made the Storm less stable than before. This is not good for RIM, this is not good for BB owners. verizon made the storm a much lessor smartphone than it should be by insisting on having complete control over the storm while putting it behind it’s walled garden.
We all know RIM makes good devices, the only blame RIM deserves is not taking control of it’s device’s hardware and software and instead letting service providers like verizon remove features and functions, cripple and screw up what should have been yet another good RIM BB.
^ How is it less stable? Are you a moron? And VZW doesn’t make the updates, RIM does. VZW tests them vs. their standards, right or wrong. You really are an idiot. Then again, the entire board and WWW already know this. It’s one thing to have an opinion, and it’s another to be flat out stupid. Guess which one you qualify for?
Just sitting back and waiting for your usual “countless times you have been reminded (by only yourself BTW) about…etc.”
bluehorseshoe,
More name calling? More personal shots? Why is it so difficult for you to figure out how to gain some class and figure out how to post, instead of showing the rest of us just how desperate your need to ego post is? Learn RIMarkable is not a place for you to crap all over, nor are fellow RIMarkable posters here for you to crap all over them which you’ve admitted makes you feel better about yourself, it’s pathetic and it shows a complete lack of respect for our host Robb. Fellow RIMarkable posters will have thoughts and sometimes prove why they post certain things. You don’t have to like what everyone else posts but instead of personally lashing out like a child it would be much smarter for you to read and try to understand what fellow posters post, you just might learn something. Others DO know more than you bluehorseshoe. Those who do, don’t need to ego post and try to hold together a very fragile childlike mentality by taking personal shots at others. You have been told about this time and time again.
Besides your lack of class and respect for anyone but your pathetic self RIM does not have final control of the update your getting from verizon, you again show you are completely naive. The “leaked” OS updates are from RIM sources but rest assured when verizon “thoroughly tests” something for release it really means they have made firmware adjustments to suit verizon. The verizon released Storm OS update might have been based on the OS update RIM gave them, but verizon’s greedly little figures have been hard at work removing features and functions, crippling and screwing up the stable OS update which we expect from RIM. The Storm was not and still is not up to RIM reputation, nor is the still buggy OS release from verizon.
Not good for RIM, Not good for BB, Not good for BB customers.
Learn and grow up.
As predicted.
Interestingly, the only person I crap on is you. Why, you ask? Simple. Because you’re an idiot. Much of your suggested rhetoric should be applied to yourself. If you were only capable of following the bouncing ball, perhaps you’d understand. Instead of being a pissed off Verizon employee, you should look into a career at the post office.
Oh, and not too long ago you even had Robb going. Did you forget? Of course you did. You can’t retain. Your memory leaks like a Blackberry Storm.
bluehorseshoe,
RIMarkable is not about you or your personal thoughts about others. It’s real simple, stay on topic and off personal thoughts. Grow up, try to get some class, post with respect for Robb, RIMarkable, and fellow posters at RIMarkable. bluehorseshoe’s admitted thread crapping “fun and games” are not only lame, but show the reality of what bluehorseshoe is, having real mental issues and has little respect for himself as well.
The delusions of grandeur and the desperation to crap on everyone and everything else who posts a opinion you can’t handle, just to try to make a fragile ego feel better, is pathetic.
Predicted? ha that’s about as lame as the constant posting like a big shot who thinks he knows something, but each and every time ends up having a childish fit complete with name calling and personal attacks when a fellow poster proves reality is far from bluehorseshoe’s fantasy land.
Yet Again….. Your off topic, desperate comments are so pathetic.
Please grow up and learn to post like a adult. You have been reminded many times before RIMarkable is not for you to post your desperate personal shots and to stroke your fragile ego. Rimarkable is not a place for you to post your opinions of others or what they post.
Grow Up.
Tell me who other than you, do I crap on? Got to admit, I enjoy abusing your sorry ass. It’s become a source of entertainment for me. The day you actually post something intelligent and comprehensive is the day I’ll leave your sorry ass alone. Think you can do it? I think not. Your IQ level doesn’t reach such a magnitude.
Off topic? You’re off topic on every topic. It’s you who was banned from this site…remember? hellno ring a bell?
Listen Verizon boy (you kill VZW in your posts, yet you work for the mother company)…you obviously have issues, both mentally as well as socially. If you can’t handle my shots, then I suggest you back off. Amazingly, you’re the only individual I’ve had an issue with…ever. Yours? Countless…
Eagerly awaiting your stupid reply.
“Verizon’s” Official Update – Do You Really Want It?
I think it’s safe to say that if you’re a Verizon customer and you have a smartphone because you understand the benefits that you also understand that among those benefits is the fact that Verizon cannot lock it down and make it their device instead of yours. Be it a Windows Mobile or Blackberry device clearly the number one benefit is that you reap the benefit of Verizon’s excellent coverage without relinquishing control of your device. Because after all damn it, “It’s MY phone”.
I’m curentlly running OS 4.7.0.113 and am happy enough with it. I may upgrade to 4.7.0.14x should I suddently become ambitious enough. I guess what I’m saying is that for me, I used to look forward to the day Verizon decided it found an OS it thought highly enough to release to their customers. But in reflecting upon my history with Verizon, I’m reminded that Verizon doesn’t see it as releasing anything they approve of to their customers, but rather their “devices”.
And that’s the problem. They generally frown on anything they can’t control and make their own. So why in knowing this would I want anything they think is good for my device. Screw them. I officially don’t want anything more from them than my phone and data plan. It’s MY fvckin’ phone goddamn it. NOT Verizon’s
I have to wonder that maybe a lot of the frustrations about the Storm, aside from the shitty OS on release was the need for RIM to continuously “leak” new versions. I also love how it’s being referred to as “leak” when it’s very clearly not being protected. It’s almost as if Verizon could be made out to be the bad guy because they didn’t want to support something that could distress hundreds of thousands of Storm users, yet RIM continued to “leak” new versions.
These leaks obviously cause drama within the Storm communities because the users worry as to why Verizon isn’t supporting it.
Ultimately the point comes to whether or not RIM should be more careful with their collaborations with OS updates or if the updates should officially be coming from RIM instead of the carriers. If the later becomes the case then suddenly RIM is as much a phone developer as they are an operating system company and they carry a lot more risk.
Half dead from too much school work: What I’m basically trying to say is that it seems that both companies could be at fault here. Verizon is at fault because they sat too long on updates that the community felt were necessary. RIM is at fault because they didn’t work close enough with Verizon to work towards an OS that would meet their criteria and continued to “leak” not quite viable solutions.

Pathetic, Childish, and Shows complete desperation.

FAIL…. All this time waiting for big red to “thoroughly test”, while missing countless versions of RIM’s OS updates in the mean time, all to come to find out the long awaited official verizon update has done nothing but made the Storm less stable than it was before. The truth comes out, there is no defending against the truth. verizon’s “thoroughly tested” safe, official release now turns out to be a buggy. Most likely due to big red’s strange need to verizon function and features out of firmware and device updates.
verizon has made the storm a much lessor smartphone than it should be by insisting on having complete control over the storm while putting it behind it’s walled garden. Smartphones need OS updates as they become available, there is zero excuse for verizon blocking BB users from being to obtain these sometimes critical device updates. The storm is not the first device verizon has made worse than it could be, or even less stable and it won’t be the last. Those who know, know all about verizon’s games, and no one doesn’t need to work for them to see, know and understand verizon’s games.
We all know RIM makes good devices, the only blame RIM deserves is not taking complete control of it’s device’s hardware and software (like Apple did with the iPhone) and instead allowing service providers like verizon remove features and functions, cripple and screw up what should have been yet another good RIM BB. Which is not good for RIM, not good for BB’s and not good for BB users.
I still cannot do an update,whenever i try,it would say “no updates available”. I am running OS 4.7.0.113. HELP!

>>RIM is at fault because they didn’t work close enough with Verizon to work towards an OS that would meet their criteria and continued to “leak” not quite viable solutions.<<
That’s where I respectfully disagree (if I’m reading you correctly). The BlackBerry, or the BlackJack or the MotoQ or whatever smartphone you wish is NOT owned or controlled by Verizon, will not be owned or controlled by Verizon and Verizon needs to build a bridge and get over it. They cannot have everything. As long as the device runs an OS they have no control over, then that’s it. RIM has no obligation to “work closely with Verizon towards an OS that would meet their criteria.” Their criteria my @ss. Here’s the device. Sell it or don’t but the device is crafted by RIM for RIM’S CUSTOMERS. Verizon is a prime example of the greed that has devoured America.
Hey Rock…the only thing that is “less stable” is you. The OS is stable, it’s the occasional crash on the camera that is an issue. Let me tell you how many times I’ve crashed Safari. Let me tell you how many times I can’t get reception on AT&T in a major city, especially where corporate headquarters used to be. Let me tell you how frustrating it is that after three major revisions, they still can’t multi-task the device. Let me tell you that your precious iPhone is a “toy.” It’s no where close for prime time business use. Oh yeah…and I own one…soon to be sold. Never again with AT&T, at least until they get their coverage and service in shape, and never an iPhone until it can actually multi-task. Then, and only then, will I personally consider it as my personal “toy.”
Ian…I’m not sure how you’re attempting the upgrade (guessing via OTA since you’re getting the “no updates available” message, but you can try downloading it and installing it via the desktop manager. Run the download, and then click the “open desktop manager now” prompt at the end of the extraction. If that doesn’t work, then I would probably recommend downgrading it to version .75, and then see if you can do it via OTA. If not, I’m almost certain you’d be able to do it via the download. Hope that helps.

I did my .203 update on Sunday. It backed up everything, loaded approximately new 350 items and took about 40 minutes through my BB Desktop manager. As far as I can tell (and I’m not a techie) it’s been working great. Everything is smoother and more seamless. The little clock that used to appear all the time for no reason never comes up anymore and it never freezes. I have the sucker loaded with apps, pics, video, text files etc. and it’s like a new phone. As far as I’m concerned it’s a great step up.
Is anyone having issues with their emails that were connected with their BB Storm not working after this software update? I had two personal email accounts set up, now only one is receiving emails on my Storm. When I go to set up the email that won’t work, it can’t connect. wtf?
Check your memory under “status.” If you’re close to zero, pull the battery and then do it again. Download quickpull and schedule it to reset your phone on a daily basis to gain the memory back. Storm has some leak issues, even with the upgrade. While it has been working great with the upgrade, I just switched back to my Curve because of the memory leaks. I was down to zero in less than half a day from 36MB. Go figure.
Sorry, I don’t see where Status is.
I’ve tried doing a hard reset by pulling the battery and a soft reset. I literally have barely anything stored on the phone, so I don’t think memory is an issue.
Did you try resending the service books from your BlackBerry account?
BTW…Status is under “Options.” Scroll down and that is where “Status” is. When you click on it, it will indicate how much battery life you have and how much memory is remaining.
My storm worked great untill I did the update about 2 weeks ago. It will not answer calls unless I push talk 3-6 times It will not hang up but it will shutdown if I hit the end key enough. Oh yah If am usig it to get the internet now it is slow as crap. I called verizon and they wanted to wipe my phone out! Idiots!
Thanks
Jason
i used to see the owner’s information on my blackberry storm when i upgraded the software i do not see the information unless the phone is locked…..please help…..
