You’ve got a choice when it comes to consumer orient BlackBerry devices. Would you rather have the BlackBerry Pearl or a BlackBerry Curve?
Just picked up my Curve (8310) yesterday and loving it. Upgraded from 8700C
I currently have a pearl but am thinking about using my AT&T upgrade to get a 8310. Decisions…decisions…
Not much of a decision here. I upgraded both my wifes and mine from the 8100. Absolutely no regrets for either one of us. Now if only the 8320 had GPS the perfect handset search would be over….for a while that is.
I could not take it anymore. I switched to AT&T for the curve from Verizon Wireless. I am very happy I did. AT&T’s coverage in my area has been great. And the Curve is well worth it.
After retiring the iPhone for my good old Pearl full time, I too am giving the eye to the Curve.
BUT let me point out I am still amazed and impressed with all that RIM BB working without flaw in the little footprint of the 8100 Pearl it’s impressive. I am one of those who finds Suretype to be best of breed.
I have to go with the Pearl. With the smaller form factor and solid performance, it gives me everything I need.
never liked the suretype keyboard
Pearl all the way!! I am getting a 8320 Curve today just to try out and, well, because its free. I am looking forward to the 8120 or the 8140. The 8140 should have both wi-fi and GPS.
OK just kidding about the 8140…it doesn’t exist.
Wow, the Curve is beating the Pearl 3 to 1. I figured that it would clearly come out on top, however, i didn’t expect it to be by such a landslide margin…
I would definitely consider the Curve, but SureType is the one thing that keeps me loyal to the Pearl. Can’t beat it for speed. Just takes some getting used to.
If I want a waffle in my ear, I’ll fall asleep at the breakfast table. I choose the bb that looks like a phone — the Pearl all the way.
The curve is great, esp since it’s full qwerty. But you can’t beat the footprint of the Pearl, with no drop off in functionality from most other BB’s.
CURVE!!!
Verizon?
Can you hear us now?
Marcus
Very shocking that the Curve is winning by that much. Switched to AT&T for the Curve myself! The full keyboard and bigger screen is worth it compared to my roommate’s pearl.
Which Blackberry? Neither, thank you very much. I’ve put in for an AT&T Tilt. The sooner I can get away from the half-wit implementation of a PDA that is the Blackberry the better. If I wasn’t operating in a BES environment I would have passed on these things a long time ago.
Since we all love our Pearls and Curves, can we please change the images of Blackberrys at the top of this blog???
I am not changing the images until I have a new BlackBerry Pearl in my hand… I am still rocking the 7130e 🙂
Pearl kicks butt! Only phone I can close my jacket with after lunch! It’s the same size as the razor with corporate e-mail, calendar, task, web browsing etc. I switched from the RAZR and I LOVE it! Slip it in my pocket like it’s not even there!! It’s sophisticated, debonair…like 007!
Pearl all the way. Those who can’t “deal” with SureType are also probably still wearing velcro on their shoes. (hehe)
BTW, the 8130 will allow viewing AND editing of word/excel doc’s without a third party app. I’m counting the days…
DR. G: are you sure about the editing of Office docs on the 8130? That would be pretty huge leap forward. The specs listed on the RIM site for the 8130 only list attachment viewing, not editing.
Read the third from the last bullet point on page 2 of this PDF. This is off Sprint’s website Press Release section:
http://www2.sprint.com/mr/cmastaticfiles/non-landing//documents/NewsRelease/BBPearl8130FactSheet.pdf
Thanks, Dr. G for the link. At this point I have to assume that the use of the word “edit” is a mistake, for the heading of the entire item feature is only “Integrated Attachment Viewing.” I assume that if editing were also built-in, the heading would have said “attachment viewing and editing.”
Either way, we’ll soon see. Again, it would be great, but I have to believe if this were true that it already would have attracted more attention.
Thought, you may be right. Perhaps wishful thinking, or interpretation, on my part. Still, I’ll keep my fingers crossed, because “edit” is actually in the description.
It is one big issue that I really hoped to be addressed. As you say, we will find out first hand soon enough.
okay, so i used my at&t upgrade to get an 8310 ti. As i have used it the past few days im wondering if i made a mistake. I now have a full qwerty keyboard…which isnt that big of a deal, didnt have a problem with sure-type, a 2.0 mp camera which i swear is no better (actually i think it might be worse) than the one in my pearl, gps..which is really useless unless you subscribe to a monthly service (as if the $40 a month im paying for a data plan isnt enough already)…battery life has been a little less than my pearl, however, i know it may improve as time passes…someone please remind me why i wanted to pay an upgrade fee of $216.54 for this
The curve looks bulky and it’s too wide to fit in some of my pockets
but my pearl fits in all of them and the keyboard really isn’t confusing at all, but it may take a couple hours to get used to for some people
pearls are a better choice
oh and the camera is amazing for a phone
Does the curve have a flash too?
the curve is 30x better than the pearl. my curve never freezes unlike the competition, and txtin is so much quicker.
Dude the curve rocks, but I would like the trackball to have the ability to change colors in ways of the pearl…aside from that there is no complaints from me ^_^ One question though, what’s with the auto-deleting of my text messages after so and so amount of time?
I’m on my third pearl. The trackball keeps breaking. All of a sudden it’ll stop scrolling down. I, getting ready to try the Curve.
went from sidekick to dash then pearl now im lovin my curve. ill probably keep this1 until tmobile gets the blackberry 9000
pearl all the way
Still haven’t gotten to Curve or Pearl… which one? I am going with TELUS in Canada, and I can choose between the 8330 or 8130. Any suggestions? How easy is SureType really? Can it be annoying for e-mail? Is the keys any easier on one particular model? Please let me know.
RED CURVE FOR ME!!!
well the pearl is definitely a cool phone that calls for praise but the curve just seems so much more convient for someone who lives for typing or the corporate world. right now i have a pearl but am definitely hoping to get a curve soon.
the curve all the way. the pearl sucks cause the texting is confusing. i love my curve it is my best phone yet
blackberry pearl fucking sucks!!!!!!!!!!i had it for two days then switched to the curve it was the best decision i ever made
i have the BB Curve 8320 and i love it.
though the simcard holder(metal thing) sucks. very flimsy.
LOL….the curve looks hella sexy!!
The Curve all the way. Pearl was never a consideration.
Im getting the curve in a few days for my upgrade, i like it over the pearl for a number of reasons, I just wish it came in more colors.
Curve all the way. I had a Pearl and Suretype sucks. If you need a phone to type anything with, especially emails, you dont want to be fooling around with Suretype because it’ll take you about 3 times as long to type something up. I’m not a big T9 worder myself, id rather spell the word out, so this Curve is great. I also had an HTC Mogul and it’s a heavy brick POS. Windows Mobile is lame-o. This phone FTW.
I hate this damn pearl I can’t wait to get the curve!
i really love the pearl its slick and comfortable.it has all the things i need.its the best blackberry.
CURVE! Suretype is way too slow for me & I like to spell things out perfectly. It’s really amazing.
Curve is the best cuz u have the keyboard…and I’d rather have a keyboard than have to press the number buttons. I have a curve and i love it. I just think you’ll be happy having a blackberry. Period. But I prefer having a curve.
Hey I’ve had my pearl for about 2 months…I hate it!!I’m on my 4th replacement…from the text and call logs deleting to the suretype thing…its annoying..then customer care tried to tell me I could only get a tmobile shadow as a replacement…yea right I got the email for the executive office and forced them to send me a curve…its in the mail….pearl sucks!!!
okay the pearl sucks ass. my friend has it and its terrible. i have the curve i lovee ittt. its sooo much easier to text on. but yeah the pearl sucks.
I love my pearl! Everything is perfect, but i have one problem. I downloaded some songs to my phone, and later decided to delete them. Now the data of the song is erased, but the name still appears on my ringtone list! Is this a normal or is something wrong with my new phone? Somebody please help me or give me some advice!!!
I really don’t think there is much of a decision about the two. One of the things with the pearl is it breaks to easily. I had to replace mine 3 times. The Curve is much faster, reliable, and its got the choice of many more apps.
okay, 6025, or whatever your name is. There is a problem with it if that song is still in your phone but the file isnt. What i would do is go have it looked at or something, you might suggest getting a new one.
i would choose the pearl!! the pearl is easy to use and its
not sooo big like the curve…..i hate the big blackeberrys!!
I have a curve and I absolutely love the unlimited possibilities with it I love it after having an iPhone I thought that nothing could replace it but I was wrong.I highly recomend the curvee 😀
I love the guy who talked about the waffle in his ear! Go Pearl
BLACKBERRYS PEARL ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE CURVES SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a BlackBerry pearl and I love it. But every time I type on it now I hear a kind of clicking noise and it has already screwed up on me once. I love this little phone but it is way to little. So … BlackBerry curve here I come!!!
i used to have the pearl and i loved it! it was so easy to type on and it was the perfect size, but i spilled on it and broke it. so i decided to try something new and ordered the curve. i get it in a week. hope its as good (:
The curve sucks hella ass I’m posting this on my pearl and the typing is easy so will everyone just shut up with the whole hard typing pearl thing already
Da curve is big as hell and the keys r 2 small
the curve is the best. nothing else to say.
This is a no brainer for me. The curve would be my choice. I think the pearl is a piece of crap and it is impossible to use. On the other hand, it is so easy to use the curve and it actually has a real qwerty keyboard. The perl just has 13 buttons with 2 letters to a button. Last time I checked that isn’t even a qwerty keyboard!!!!!!!
I just got a curve after doing some digging
bugging friends about their phones and they say the curve dose not freez or shut off and they have fixed the bugs in the newer one o and did i mention it im in love i cant leave the house with out it and i sleep with it next to me its my baby =]
CURVE!!!
I’m on my pearl 8120 at the moment and I love it. Yeah its alittle slow in responding sometimes but I’d rather have this than a big bulky phone. And everyone that complains about the messages and call logs deleting, I think its really stupid that the pearl does that but I got mine to stop doing that and having pretty much unlimited memory by deleting a lot of the dumb ringtones and pre loaded languages that I didn’t need. I went to a blackberry forum and I went through a step by step process to do it and it worked perfectly. Nothing has been deleted since. Man this SureType is a beautiful thing!!!
I LOVE BLACKBERRY´S BUT MY FAVORITE ACTUALLY IS THE BLACKBERRY CURVE ONE OF THIS DAYS I WILL HAVE MINE!! YEEIII!! IM SO EXCITED! I LOVE BBCURVE!!!
OMG!! I REALLY LOVE BLACKBERRY´S!! ARE THE BEST PHONE IN THE WORLD YOU CAN CHAT BY BB MESSENGER! ITS ALL AROUND THE WORLD! ITS AMAZING! BLACKBERRY VS IPHONE!! I CHOOSE BLACKBERRY!! BB PEARL VS. BB CURVE! I CHOOSE BB CURVE.. AND BB. CURVE VS. BB BOLD I DEFINITELY CHOOSE BB CURVE! I LOVE IT!!! WHOOOOO BB THE BEST!! =D
LOL
Im not sure about blackberry curve and blackberry peal…… mm…… i choose blackbery curve its bigger and maybe it will have more memory!!!!!!! happy new year!
Man you guys are idiots, completely agree with the waffle guy! The curve is so bulky, had my pearl 8130 for 6 months and not a thing has gone wrong with it, best investment i ever made, super easy to text, and the deleting of texts is because you don’t have enough space so get a memory card and delete crappy ring tones, you wouldn’t keep that junk on your computer so why keep it on your hand held computer… Duh….. Curve is good for business, pearl for everyone else! Way cooler too (get the blue one)
I had a black berry pearl, then went to a wing, then to a iphone now to a g1. g1 is my favorite. I absolutely hated the crap black berry calls a pearl 8100. I would try a curve though it looks better (size to me is nothing)
Hey guys.
I got a Pearl today after considering all the possiblities. It kicks ass!
Hi..I have pearl 8110..the only problem that I face is that my messages get deleted automatically..I’ve read the comments saying if I delete the languages and unwanted data from my phone it’ll stop doing that..but I don’t have any data in my phone memory other than default pix and languages..can anybody help me on this?I don’t use the net so kindly if you could email me @ aghaaliraza@mobilink.blackberry.com I would be extremely grateful..its a great phone but if I keep on facing this problem I would have to switch to curve..thanks a million and am waiting for sum angel out thr to help me on this issue
I faced this decision when buying my new phone, and decided the Curve was weird looking. It’s to big, even though it is quite small. The keys are teeny tiny, and the quality of the keys isn’t as superb. I purchased a BlackBerry Pearl 8110, and I have yet to regret a thing. I’ve never had the problem of it deleting things from my call log, or my messages. I’ve had my phone for about four months and I still have the first text I ever sent.
The Pearl is actually shaped like a phone. And sure type is heaven! It takes about a month of getting used to it and getting the software all personalized to you, but than it trumps a normal keyboard any day. PEARL, all the way.
Gah, at the Suretype… sux ass..
Can not wait till June so that I can UPGRADE to the Curve.
I have a BlackBerry Pearl 8110 pink , I was actually getting the Blackberry curve for christmas but my mom made a mistake so I have to deal with the pearl for 2 years now .. I’m really bumbed about it but whatever .. It’s a cute phone but i rather have the curve or the 8830 in red
Oh well,
next december I’ll get the Blackberry I want!
but between the pearl and curve I would have to say the CURVE
xo
it will be my best phone of my live.
i prefer curve
PEARLL.
i have a pearl andmy friend has curve so we go on eachotherss
now and then but i deffo love my pearl its pretty and not
soo ugly looking . and yeah its hard to type …..
for about the first five minutes , its so friking easy to type on it mann!
also pearls can go on youtube curves cant!
suck on that guyysss 😀
Yes they can! My best friend has the sprint bb curve her son is on youtube ALL THE TIME I’ve seen it it has a youtube APP on the home screen!
I have a pearl and am hoping the curve will have more memory. My pearl seems to always be downloading and is way slow even after deleting everything. Hoping the curve is better!
curve all the wayy !
The BlackBerry Pearl is RIM’s lwoest end mobile. It’s the worst BlackBerry with the somewhat worst features a weird look to it and a messed up keyboard they call SureType. In that thing you’re sure to type wrong.
The BlackBerry Curve is America’s favourite smartphone for a reason. It’s light, good looking, has great features and is affordable.
