According to a Slash Gear insider, the BlackBerry Storm 2 is set to hit Verizon in September and will include Wi-Fi.
While we’re not able to name our source, we can say that we’ve no doubts regarding the veracity of their information. The source gave us their assurances that the Storm 2 would have WiFi, and would be an even better Pro-consumer device than the first Storm.
Uh oh…I’m now waiting for The Rock/hellno to respond to this one and say that while VZW has now ‘allowed’ a device to have Wifi, it really isn’t Wifi.
On a serious note, I’d like to see the new device have a touch screen that doesn’t have to be pushed in so I can speed up my typing. Aside from the small keyboard, I love typing on the iPhone, especially when dialing numbers. I’m looking forward to the Pre offering both capabilities of touch and a physical keyboard.
And I love how BG indicates they knew of this info earlier. Right…someone else comes out with the info that is big and he cannot stand it. Then he confirms their story with his sources to confirm. What a jackass.
Oh yeah , I hear it today.
I really want it-.
yeah coming in september!! I hope so
^ pathetic. So desperate, again for the 1002nd time, your personal opinion of others, and your desperate personal ego posts is not needed nor wanted here at rimarkable
Nice. I guess that the WiFi would be nice if you didn’t have a data plan. But the thing I would like about the phone would be the advancement with the touch screen. Other than that, it’s the same phone.
I just hope that VZW get’s the OS updates out faster.

WiFi is good even when you have a data plan. WiFi is quicker than any 3G technology and takes less power. IF verizon is changing and will allow RIM to release BB’s with open WiFi on the verizon network it not only is a win for consumers, a win for RIM, it also really brings home the fact that the mega success of the iPhone is pushing verizon to crack open up the iron gate around it’s walled garden even more.
As for OS updates… I want RIM to handle the hardware and the OS updates for their hardware NOT the service providers who have proven again and again they are not to be trusted when it comes to giving consumers or the hardware manufactures what’s fair and right.
PS Go BGR!
hey wrong forum, bluehorseshoe !!! the Iphone forum is a few doors down. Buzz off !!!
^ I own a Storm. Comparing to the screen of the iPhone. My VZW Storm (soon to be Niagara) is my work phone. Pre will certainly get my attention for personal use though…
I must say so far I love the capabilities of the storm. I agree wifi would simply strengthen this phones already impressive arsenal.
One thing, will the storm 2’s processor be any faster?
The storm is a great handset but the processor seems to be overwhelmed often. Sometimes it lags to the point where I can’t answer incoming calls. I certainly hope RIM can work this out on the storm 2
One possible step forward for consumers, but don’t worry verizon is working x2 time keeping control of consumers, desperate to not get “outpaced” by manufactures designing consumer friendly technology and app’s into their hardware.
Skype may be tip of the iceberg for carriers

“Asked what it could do to counter third-party providers once it starts delivering VoIP itself, Verizon Wireless gave hints as to how it plans to approach data services in general.
“We have moved away from unlimited data plans,” Verizon Wireless President and CEO Lowell McAdam said at a question-and-answer session at CTIA. “The excitement of an over-the-top application like (Skype) in an unlimited environment means one thing to a customer. In an environment where you’re paying for every byte, that means something totally different,” McAdam said.
In addition to charging per bit, Verizon plans to tackle the business of mobile VoIP the same way it’s handling wired services: by making it part of a bundle that only the huge wired and wireless carrier can offer.
“The voice service will become part of something different, something larger,” said Ivan Seidenberg, Chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications. “It’s not that Skype’s doing anything wrong, but eventually they’re going to get outpaced,” he said.”
storm is not a big hit from verizon. But iphone is great from at&t

anywho, i’m excited for this storm to see how much it will be improved upon. the storm is a great phone to build on and will definitely be a great consumer phone with a bb logo on it. hopefully the touch screen capabilities will be greatly improved with a faster processor.
