I was just reading frequent RIMarkable commenter Thought’s column over on BlackBerry Cool where he makes a few 2007 BlackBerry predictions. The one that I absolutely hope comes true is:
RIM will release a BlackBerry 8800 for Verizon sooner than expected.
Thought thinks that Verizon may offer the BlackBerry 8800 in the first half of the year and possibly as early as Q1. If this prediction comes true thousands of Verizon BlackBerry subscribers, myself included, will jump for joy.
Thought, I hope you got this one right.
Verizon BlackBerry 8800
I cannot say if this prediction is true or not. I can say that Verizon needs for it to be true. If they want to be the top dog wireless company in the U.S., they will will have to offer the latest devices.
I will not wait until the fall to get a BlackBerry 8800 on Verizon. I have been month to month since my two-year contract was up from when I bought my 7250. I love Verizon but I will switch to T-Mobile or Cingular to get the device I want. I think a lot of Verizon subscribers will.
I am with Rich
I have been with Verizon for about 4 years and it is by far the best network that I have ever used. I have to admit though that if the BlackBerry 8800 is as sweet as the BlackBerry Pearl that I just bought my girlfriend is, I will switch if Verizon doesn’t offer it.
Does anyone know who the BlackBerry 8800 will be coming out on first? Cingular or T-Mobile? And do they allow you to use your BlackBerry like a modem like I can with my BlackBerry 7130?
I didn’t mean to post my email address. Sorry about that.
I few of the tech at a local verizon store here let it slip that the new 8800 will be on their shelves very soon…Maybe in JAN or early FEB
When is this thing coming out for T- mobile. I havent heard anything in quite a while about it
Yes, this rumor is very true. Verizon is currently testing hybrid type world phone blackberry that supports both GSM and CDMA. I have seen it in the testing phase, and it has a silver color to it, and when you pop out the back cover, you have a slot to pop in the sim something you all should keep in mind! You heard it first! From BB4Life!
LemonLime, I edited your email address out. Hopefully i got it before it got spidered.
youguys reported a while ago that the 8800 was coming out mid-march.
is this true or is it another one of your guesses and assumptions?
sorry i meant mid january
Jack
Your comment seems to have some hate in it. “Your” guesses and assumptions? Speaking for myself, we get tips and notes every day from various people regarding all spectrums of the BlackBerry World. We take those, scrape what we think is most relevant, and blog about it. Robb isn’t getting these numbers/dates from just anywhere.
ANYWAY. I’ve heard a Feb. 2 date being chucked around. I really can’t confirm/deny. More fuel to the rumour fire.
What Steve said Jack…
Jack,
Notice the question mark at the end of the title? That means this is a question.
Lighten up dude…
ooooh i didnt see the question mark at the end of a title.
thanks for straightening that out for me Rich.
If a cdma version comes oou for Verizon is this good news for Sprint? I think the best way for RIM to compete with the Apple I phone is to target the business users. Wouldn’t SprintNextel be the obvious carrier to deliver this with their high percentage corporate business?
seeing as in june they will be losing customers out the wazoo to cingular due to the iphone release they need to offer anything and everything they can to keep their customers.
Actually Gary,
I think that Verzion, becasue of the number of business BlackBerry users on their network, will see less of the iPhone impact than the other carriers.
T-Mobile, in my opinion, is the carrier that should be a bit worried because they tend to sign up a lot of first time BlackBerry buying consumers that may be swayed by the Cingular only iPhone.
